U.S. government sues Fiat Chrysler over diesel emissions

The U.S. government filed a civil lawsuit against Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV over the use of software that violates U.S. emissions tests for diesels. The lawsuit states that 104,000 Ram pickup trucks and Jeep Grand Cherokee cars contained the software. In January, the Environmental Protection Agency accused Fiat Chrysler of the software violations. Since then, Fiat, the EPA, and the California Air Resources spent months negotiating before deciding to pursue a lawsuit. "The company intends to defend itself vigorously, particularly against any claims that the company engaged in any deliberate scheme to install defeat devices to cheat U.S. emissions tests," the company said in a statement.
