Boy Writes Apology Letter For Swiping Pen, Gets 'Pardon' From Governor

A 4th grader's apology letter to Oregon Governor Kate Brown has gone viral.
A 4th grader's apology letter has gone viral. It was addressed to Oregon Governor Kate Brown who posted the letter to Facebook.
Samuel wrote in the letter, "My class visited the capitol on April 19. While we were there I took a hazelnut and pen from the capitol building. These things were not mine and it was wrong for me to take them. I'm very sorry. I hope you and the people of Oregon can forgive me."
He also sent back the pen and one dollar for the hazelnut.
The governor wrote back that she has accepted Samuel's apology.
She also said on Facebook, "Samuel, in exchange for your apology, debt repayment, and return of the pen you lifted, I formally pardon you from any further penalty. I hope the pen coming your way will be an adequate memento of your visit at the Capitol. Come back soon!"
Numerous positive reactions followed on social media such as this one from Jeff Johnson, "Governor Brown - I'm not from Oregon and I don't know you. But I wanted to thank you for your gracious response to Samuel. Our world would be such a better place if we could all learn to apologize for our mistakes, like Samuel did, and to graciously offer forgiveness to others, as you did. Thanks for reminding me to work to be a better person!"
