Jesse Jackson Speaks on Hip Hop Affecting our Culture and his Candid Thoughts on the "N-Word"

Celebrating Black History month, The Reverend Jesse Jackson stopped by Sway in the Morning to give us great insight on how civil rights leaders opened the door for athletes. Plus, he spoke candidly on his thoughts of Rap's influence on our culture, and how the "N-word" shouldn't be used in our everyday language.

"I want the impressment of people to appreciate the value behind the King holiday, beyond just a party day for blacks." Jesse Jackson tells Sway. "We changed the culture... Whether it be hockey or basketball... you can negotiate free agency -- that's Curt Flood. [African American civil rights athlete who changed the game of baseball]"

Mr. Jackson continued by telling us a story on how Mavin Gaye's What's Going On helped the culture understand Martin Luther King's voice, and encourages artists to use their platform for good.

"Artists have the power to emancipate, or be negative... music and art should always be uplifting."

Watch above as he further elaborates on his thoughts on the "N-word," and his thoughts on President Barack Obama.
