Stoddard, associate editor and columnist at RealClearPolitics, expressed these concerns during a CNN panel Friday, saying, “What Donald Trump does is takes things that are true...and then he throws a lie on top of it and makes the entire story about the White House trying to cover up for the president’s mess…”
She added, “This is all illustrative of the fact that no one can stop Donald Trump. Nobody can tell the president, ‘Let’s wait, pause 36 hours, let’s think about the consequences of sitting down with Lester Holt and running your mouth or tweeting Rosie O’Donnell on the very same day.’”
Stoddard then said, “No one can stop this, and no one can talk sense into him. Not Vice President Pence. Not Chief of Staff Reince Priebus. Not Chief Strategist Steve Bannon. Not the kids. Nobody.”
However, a Washington Post report stated that “within the West Wing, there was little apparent dissent over the president’s decision to fire Comey.”
It goes on to reveal that “Ivanka Trump, the president’s daughter, and her husband, Jared Kushner — both of whom work in the White House — have frequently tried to blunt Trump’s riskier impulses but did not intervene to try to persuade him against firing Comey, according to two senior officials.”
As such, a recent Huffington Post column questions whether the first daughter missed an opportunity to steer her father away from all the controversy that has erupted or whether she “is actually complicit in her father’s decisions.”
One area where Ivanka Trump is rumored to be taking a stand is on the Paris climate accord which she, husband Jared Kushner, and others reportedly want the U.S. to uphold despite opposition from elsewhere in the administration.
