A father and daughter died in Venice, Florida, after they drove their vehicle off South Jetty Park into the water on Monday, May 8. The victims were identified as Eugene Hayden, 89, and Carol Hayden, 64, by city officials.A witness told ABC Action News the two victims were trying to get out of the vehicle and people tried to help them, but the water pressure was too great. A Venice police officer also attempted to help, according to city officials, but the vehicle had submerged by the time the marine patrol arrived. Other area agencies also responded.This video, released by the Venice Police Department, shows the rescue efforts as the van sinks into the water.
