Judge dismisses Aaron Hernandez's murder conviction

A Massachusetts' judge threw out Aaron Hernandez’s murder conviction on Tuesday. The Bristol County Superior Court Judge Susan Garsh said she dismissed the case because Hernandez committed suicide before the Supreme Judicial Court was able to review it. The case was thrown out under the principle of “abatement ab initio,” where a defendant will be treated as if they were never convicted if they are deceased.
