These Tiny Sea Creatures Are Fighting Climate Change

by Jeff DonlanTiny sea creatures are helping filter the ocean and fight climate change. Called giant larvaceans, they’re only the size of a pinky finger. Scientists in California were only recently able to study them in their natural habitat thanks to new laser technology. Giant larvaceans live in large bubble “houses” that collect dead and drifting plants and animals. When the filters in these “houses” are filled with organic materials, the larvaceans abandon it. The houses then sink to the seafloor, carrying the organic materials with them.
