by Anthony FalcoTomatoes can grow in one of the coldest cities in the world thanks to new greenhouse technology developed by a Japanese company.The average temperature in the Siberian city of Yakutsk is -29 °F, making it difficult to grow any produce. But the greenhouse’s insulation and heating system keep the temperature indoors at a minimum of 73 °F. The building’s thin layers also let in sunlight and can withstand nearly 8 tons of snow.The city hopes to expand the project to feed up to 40 percent of its population.
