Haryana women challenge educational criteria to contest Panchayat polls

Three women from Haryana have moved the Supreme Court questioning the validity of a law mandating educational qualification for those contesting Panchayat polls. presently rules says that - a man should be Class 10 pass, Class 8 pass for women and Class 5 pass for Dalits, if they want to contest panchayat elections. They have termed it a device to deprive an overwhelming majority of the population from taking part in grassroots-level elections.
