A new network aimed at a more conservative audience is reportedly being discussed among some high-powered people who believe Fox News is becoming too liberal.
According to a Mediaite report on Friday, an inside source and participant in the discussions “says a meeting is planned for today with two prominent high-powered television executives, some underperforming conservative networks and people who have an interest and the ability to fund a new network.”
The piece then speculates that the network could potentially bring on board executives from Fox News and conservative stars like Bill O’Reilly and Tomi Lahren who no longer have their public platforms at Fox News and TheBlaze, respectively.
Regardless of these potential plans, change is already underway at Fox News, including the ouster of O’Reilly and former CEO Roger Ailes--both over sexual harassment allegations.
The New York Times is also reporting that the environment there will likely continue to evolve as the sons of Rupert Murdoch, the current head of Fox News’ parent company 21st Century Fox “are now forcibly exerting themselves.”
The piece goes on to say that “his sons seem determined to rid the company of its roguish, old-guard internal culture and tilt operations toward the digital future.”
As such, long-time executives may be facing uncertain futures; in fact, New York magazine has reported, based on inside sources, that Fox News co-president Bill Shine asked Rupert's sons to “release a statement in support of him, but they refused to do so.”
Fox News host Sean Hannity tweeted a link to the story, writing, in part, “...i pray this is NOT true because if it is, that's the total end of the FNC as we know it. Done.”
