Report: Obama To Be Paid $400,000 For Speaking At Wall Street Event

Former President Barack Obama has, according Fox Business, accepted an offer to speak at a September Wall Street event.

Former President Barack Obama has accepted an offer to speak at a September Wall Street event focused on heath care and hosted by investment bank Cantor Fitzgerald LP, reports Fox Business, citing executives at the firm.
His payment for the appearance is said to be $400,000, though the sources that spoke with the network said the engagement has not been officially announced.
According to the BBC, "The fee is nearly twice the $225,000 that Hillary Clinton received for three speeches to Goldman Sachs in 2015."
Fox Business further noted that even though an agreement was signed, Obama could still back out if he so chooses. One of the potential reasons cited for a reversal of plans is bad publicity.
Negative commentary about the speech is likely to ensue, as Obama often held big banks and the, “completely irresponsible actions on Wall Street,” at least partially to blame for the highly damaging recession that hit in the late 2000s, reports CBS News.
The former president’s office has yet to comment on the arrangement.
