Trump throws tariffs on Canadian lumber

The Trump administration is slapping Canada with tariffs up to 24 percent on lumber shipments into the U.S. U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross stated that softwood lumber imports from Canada make up about 31.5 percent of the total U.S. market. He said the tariffs were being imposed after talks on dairy product trades fell through. The tariffs come as the U.S., Mexico, and Canada renegotiate the 1994 free trade agreement, NAFTA. This is the first tariff issued by President Donald Trump since entering office.
