Polls opened at 8 a.m. for France in the first round of the country's highly contested presidential election. Nearly 47 million voters are casting their ballots as the country remains in a state of emergency. Armed police and soldiers are guarding polling stations, following the attack by ISIS in Champs-Elysees when a gunman opened fire killing a policeman and wounding three others. Around 50,000 policeman and 7,000 soldiers were deployed to guard the nation's voting sites, for both the first and second round of voting on May 7.
