Bearded lady embraces facial hair from hormonal condition

NEW YORK — Too much facial hair is just one of the things this New York woman has to deal with because of her hormonal condition. But if you think that’s getting her down, think again.

Alma Torres was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome, or PCOS, when she was 16, according to Mercury Press. Apart from giving her a beard, the disorder can cause severe abdominal and ovary pain, weight gain and even infertility.

Torres says people have given her a lot of grief for her facial fuzz. She’s even been called “cancer” by one jerk.

But enough is enough. Back in August, the 24-year-old photographer decided to stop shaving and leave her beard alone.

Her boyfriend of five years has been more than supportive, describing his girlfriend’s facial hair as natural and beautiful.

It’s been eight months since, and Torres is more confident because of her beard. She hopes to encourage other PCOS sufferers to feel the same.

Torres still struggles with the possibility of being infertile, but one day hopes to defy the odds of her condition and have a miracle baby.
