A teacher and a custodian were praised as heroes for their quick responses when shots erupted in a San Bernardino elementary school classroom, reports CBS News.
The media outlet notes that at a Wednesday meeting, North Park Elementary educator JoyElla Bueler was lauded for her immediate efforts to care for 9-year-old Nolan Brandy, who was among those wounded and is now recovering in an area hospital.
Bueler recalled, “Darlene got on 911 and I just applied pressure and talked to him. And he was my hero and I’m just glad that he is going to be OK.”
Custodian Edna Gamarro was also commended for her quick action in getting a child to safety.
According to the San Bernardino County Sun, on April 10, Cedric Anderson walked into the classroom of his estranged wife, Karen Elaine Smith.
He opened fire, "killing Smith and another student, 8-year-old Jonathan Martinez," notes People.
Nolan was wounded and initially listed in critical condition. His parents recently announced that his health is improving, and the spokesperson for the school district told People that Nolan will likely be moved out of intensive care in the coming days.
