This Drone Gets Up Close To Active Volcanoes

by Anthony FalcoA volcano eruption in Guatemala was captured by a drone specifically developed for volcano monitoring. Researchers were collecting key data from active volcanoes using the drone, which had been fitted with sensors measuring temperature, humidity and thermal data within volcanic clouds. The drone needed to be launched from nearly 5 miles away and had to maintain a height of almost 2 miles. The Cambridge and Bristol researchers plan to return with a drone equipped with even more sensors. They hope the data on active volcanoes will help better predict future eruptions.
