Thousands of Uber, Lyft drivers fail background checks
  • 7 years ago
More than 8,000 drivers on apps like Uber and Lyft failed background checks in Massachusetts for a range of infractions. Approximately 8,206 drivers out of 70,789 failed the state's new background check due to license suspensions, violent crimes, and sexual offenses. Hundreds of drivers were disqualified instantly for committing serious crimes, such as drunk driving. State laws limit ride-hailing apps by allowing companies to check only the last seven years of a driver's history.
