Roman Polanski denied guarantee of no jail time in US

Roman Polanski may face jail time for raping a 13-year-old girl if he ever returns to the United States, a judge ruled. The Oscar-winning director admitted statutory rape in 1977 and spent 42 days in jail before getting out on bail and fleeing the country. Polanski's legal team argue that he already served his time and should be able to return to the U.S. without having to complete his sentence. "The people simply do not believe that it is in the best interests of justice to give a wealthy celebrity different treatment from any other fugitive from justice," Deputy District Attorney Michele Hanisee said.
