Palestinian Women Create Cement From Waste

by Jeff DonlanAn all-female team of Palestinian engineers in Gaza has created a new kind of cement made from waste. Cement in the area is scarce because of import restrictions imposed by Israel. The mixture they have developed consists of 25% glass, 20% coal ash, and 55% cement. It is then molded into cubes that are stronger and more dense than pure cement. The engineers’ goal is to produce the concrete on an industrial scale, with a production goal of over 60 tons a month.
