Scarlett Johansson Clarifies Ghost in the Shell Casting
  • 7 years ago
Scarlett Johansson is being criticized for taking the starring role in Ghost In The Shell, because fans say it should have gone to an Asian.

…and now she’s having to defend her choice.

The 32-year-old sat down with Michael Strahan for an interview with Good Morning America, and she answered the whitewashing claims that have been coming her way.

The movie is based on a popular Japanese manga and anime and Scarlett declared that her character is identity-less… and that she would never attempt to play a person of a different race.

She stated that she hopes any question that comes up of her casting will be answered by audiences when they see the film.

But naysayers aren’t buying it. They allege that CGI has been used to make Scarlett appear Asian, and others point out that it was no coincidence that her hair was darkened.

But the director of the original film had no problem with Scarlett’s casting and the company that owns the rights to the series agree that Scarlett is well cast.
