Shocking footage has emerged from Hong Kong of a mall escalator suddenly reversing, injuring 18 people.

The CCTV footage, captured on Saturday, shows one of Hong Kong's largest escalators in a shopping mall suddenly changing direction and speeding up, causing a crush of people at the bottom.

Around 18 people were injured even though someone managed to stop the escalator.
