Melania Trump has had a wine released in her honor.
According to the website Decanter, four winemakers from Slovenia, where she grew up, have launched a wine called First Lady. It is made from local Blaufränkisch grapes.
Lojze Kerin, one of these producers, has described the resulting product by saying, “It’s not a strong a wine, it’s gentle like Melania."
The first 300 bottles that were released for about $30 each reportedly sold out within days; 2,000 additional bottles were then made available for sale at a tourist office and a 12th century castle in town.
Melania is not personally involved with the wine, and the team admits the project is intended to promote tourism, the grape variety, and winegrowers.
She is believed to have hired a law firm to keep her name and likeness from being used by Slovenian entrepreneurs, but this group maintains that their products which also include salami and chocolate are a high enough quality and "good for the area" that they are willing to take the risk.
According to a Reuters report from January, Melania's hometown of Sevnica has experienced a two-fold increase in tourism over the time that her husband, then-candidate Donald Trump, was running for office.
