Scientists discover 400,000-year-old skull of mystery human

Scientists discovered fragments of what appears to be a 400,000-year-old skull in Portugal. The skull has a range of traits, those of which resemble Neanderthals and other features which are similar to extinct fossils found in Europe. Researchers made the initial discovery in 2014 in the Gruta da Aroeira cave located in central Portugal. Scientists have not yet identified what type of early human the skull belonged to. Neanderthals are believed to be the closest ancestor to homo sapiens, the same species which humans belong to.
