Is Fukushima’s thyroid issues caused by radiation?

Doctors in Japan found 185 cases of thyroid cancer in children in the Fukushima region, which was hit by the 2011 nuclear disaster. However, research done at the Fukushima Medical University has not found a link between thyroid cancer and radiation. Experts in Japan linked thyroid cancer to consuming large amounts of food rich in iodine, like seaweed. Akira Ohtsuru, expert on radiation and thyroid ultrasounds, said that there currently isn’t a way of telling if any cancer is caused by radiation. Despite the results, parents and children still fear the after-effects of radiation, even after moving away from Fukushima.
