Gay veterans were voted out of the 2017 Boston St. Patrick’s Day parade by the Allied War Veterans Council. OutVets, an LGBT group for veterans, lost the vote 9 to 4 on Tuesday. Opposed to the vote, Parade Grand Marshal Dan Magoon resigned from the the council in protest saying that this “does not coincide with the work I do advocating for all veterans.” Other Boston officials and sponsors like Mayor Marty Walsh spoke publicly against the vote. OutVets and other LGBT groups were invited to march for the first time in 2015 and once again in 2016, after being banned for 20 years.
