FATIMA BHUTTO ON HOLLYWOOD AND PROPAGANDA

Fatima Bhutto was born in Afghanistan in 1982. She grew up in Syria and Pakistan and has written for Granta, The Financial Times, and many other publications. She is the author of four books, most recently, The Shadow of the Crescent Moon, published by Penguin. In this exposé of the longstanding relationship between Hollywood and propaganda, Bhutto looks at how the CIA’s fingerprints are on more movies than we realise. She explains how Rambo is classic war-nography and decodes the ideological messages in Argo, American Sniper, Zero Dark Thirty and Homeland. You won’t watch films the same way again.
