Iranian director absent from Oscars slams Trump in acceptance message
- 7 years ago
Iranian director Asghar Farhadi just won an Oscar for the Best Foreign Language Film for The Salesman. But in protest of President Trump’s executive order, Farhadi did not attend the awards ceremony. Instead, Iranian-American businesswoman Anousheh Ansari, who is the first Iranian woman to go to space, read the director's acceptance speech. Trump's original ban temporarily prohibited the entry of nationals from seven Muslim-majority countries to the U.S.
