Meryl Streep Accused of Wanting to Get Paid to Wear Chanel at 2017 Oscars

Meryl Streep is ready to appear at the 89th Academy Awards with her 20th nomination, which is a pretty big deal… Needless to say, she has to dress for the occasion.

But, apparently Meryl believes that a designer should pay her to appear in their threads.

E Online reports that Chanel’s creative director, Karl Lagerfeld, claims that Meryl originally wanted to wear an embroidered gray silk gown from Chanel’s most recent collection… Until, money spoke to her.

According to Lagerfeld, Meryl’s team contacted Chanel and said, “Don’t continue the dress… We found somebody who will pay us.”

And Lagerfeld certainly isn’t having that… He says, “After we gift her a dress that’s $100,000 euros, we found later we had to pay for her to wear it… We give them dresses, we make the dresses, but we don’t pay.”

Apparently some actresses to get paid by designers to rock their fabric in public, but the Hollywood Reporter reports that Meryl’s camp denies the claims and says “it is against Meryl’s personal ethics to be paid to wear a gown on the red carpet.”

If Meryl has to act like she didn’t say that, there’s not a person on the planet who won’t believe her.
