Sharjeel, Latif confess contact with bookie: PCB chief

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Cricket Board chief Shehryar Khan says opening batsmen Khalid Latif and Sharjeel Khan, currently facing suspension on charges of spot-fixing during the Pakistan Super League (PSL), have confessed to be in contact with the bookie, ARY News reported

According to sources, Mr. Khan told the Senate body that Sharjeel during the in-camera briefing confessed to have played two dot balls during the match in the ongoing league after ‘deal’ with the bookie. While Latif also admitted to have contacted the bookie.

Shehryar Khan said the players had been provided 14 days to furnish their replies. He said bookie either contact through former players or mutual relatives.

The PCB chairman said cricketer Nasir Jamshed facilitated the contact of bookie with Sharjeel and Khalid. “Both of them were in London, and they came to Dubai to meet the two Pakistani openers.”

Khan said investigation against pace bowler Muhammad Irfan was still underway.

The PCB had already two players of their suspected involvement in the spot-fixing scandal.

He said Misbah should tell him about his future plans instead of sharing those thoughts on ‘irrelevant platforms’.

Last week, the PCB chief Shahryar Khan said both the players had asked for time to discuss with their families.

The chairman PCB said the time (sought to discuss with their families) had ended now and they would be formally indicted in the case in a couple of days.

“We should be vigilant that our legal process is complete and our stance is watertight,” he said.

To a query, he said the logic behind indicting was that PCB wanted them to talk on record as the formal discussion would be recorded in video.
