The NYPD has tallied the cost of watching over the Trumps and Trump Tower between the election and the inauguration, and it was less than $35 million initially estimated.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) has tallied the cost of watching over the Trumps and Trump Tower between the election and the inauguration, and it was less than $35 million initially estimated, reports Reuters.
The total came in at roughly $24 million.
According to the police department, daily costs for the protection of Melania and Barron Trump run between $127,000 and $146,000, notes the New York Times.
That figure jumps to $308,000 a day when the president is staying in the penthouse, which he has reportedly not done since being sworn in.
The Week reports that the NYPD now anticipates it will spend $50 million per year if the first lady and Barron stay in the New York City after the school year or $60 million if President Trump begins to pay regular weekend visits.
In the letter detailing the adjustments, Police Commissioner James P. O’Neil also noted, “Trump Tower itself now presents a target to those who wish to commit acts of terror against our country, further straining our limited counterterrorism resources.”
The city has been working to get a reimbursement from the federal government.
Thus far, it has has been given $7 million, notes The Week.
