Attorneys for first lady Melania Trump have filed an amended lawsuit against Mail Media, Inc., also known as Mail Online, over a false claim that she had previously been an "escort."
According to website LawNewz, the document no longer implies that she had intended to “cash in on her First Lady ‘brand’ to sell ‘apparel, accessories, shoes, jewelry, cosmetics, hair care, skin care and fragrance’ from her White House perch.”
In fact, it omits a highly criticized line which stated in part that she, as the plaintiff, “had the unique, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity...to launch a broad-based commercial brand in multiple product categories...during which plaintiff is one of the most photographed women in the world.”
Instead, the revised document refers to “tremendous harm to Plaintiff’s personal and professional reputation and prospective economic opportunities, as well as causing her significant humiliation and emotional distress.”
The amended complaint, filed on February 17, also cites a recent incident where New York Times reporter Jacob Bernstein referred to Mrs. Trump as a "hooker," which he later publicly admitted and apologized for.
It claims that his comment is an example of “defamatory statements about Plaintiff [that] continue to be repeated and re-published by others…”
