When Donald Trump was president-elect, he allegedly invited attendees of a party at his New Jersey golf club to watch as he interviewed potential members of his administration, reports Politico.
According to the media outlet, which said it obtained an audio recording of his comments from a person who was present at the time, Trump told the group, “We’re doing a lot of interviews tomorrow — generals, dictators, we have everything. You may wanna come around. It’ll be fun.”
He is also reportedly quoted as saying, “We have meetings every 15, 20 minutes with different people that will form our government. We’re going to be interviewing everybody — Treasury, we’re going to be interviewing Secretary of State. We have everybody coming in — if you want to come around, it’s going to be unbelievable….so you might want to come along.”
For some, the leaked tape adds to concerns about President Trump’s discretion; just a week before, he and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe had been photographed reacting to a potential crisis while dining outside at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club.
As the Washington Post reported, “That strange scene — in which Trump turned his table into an al fresco situation room — astounded White House veterans, who were used to presidents retiring to private, secured settings to hash out such an event.”
However, White House press secretary Sean Spicer later commented that no classified material was handled at that location.
