Grammys President: Race not a factor in Adele topping Beyonce
  • 7 years ago
Much has been made of Adele beating Beyonce in a majority of categories at this year's Grammy Awards. Both viewers and the artists themselves took to social media to voice their opinion, with some suggesting that race was played a factor in the academy's decision making. Academy president Neil Portnow recently addressed such displeasure in an interview with Pitchfork. No, I don't think there's a race problem at all. Remember, this is a peer-voted award, it's not a corporate entity – it's the 14,000 members of the Academy...It's always hard to create objectivity out of something that's inherently subjective, which is what art and music is about. We do the best we can. Portnow also said that the academy is always "working on increasing diversity in membership."
