On Monday, a White House official said that the Trump administration intends to continue calling unfavorable reports "fake news."
In an interview with radio host Michael Medved, Trump’s deputy assistant Sebastian Gorka said, “There is a monumental desire on behalf of the majority of the media, not just the pollsters, the majority of the media to attack a duly elected President in the second week of his term."
Gorka, who once worked as an editor for Breitbart News, continued, “That's how unhealthy the situation is and until the media understands how wrong that attitude is, and how it hurts their credibility, we are going to continue to say, 'fake news.'"
Over the past weeks, the 'fake news' accusation has seen frequent use but sparse substantiation, reports CNN.
Among the better-known and more active users of the phrase is President Trump.
Notable instances from Monday alone include the tweets, “Any negative polls are fake news, just like the CNN, ABC, NBC polls in the election. Sorry, people want border security and extreme vetting,” and, “The failing @nytimes writes total fiction concerning me. They have gotten it wrong for two years, and now are making up stories & sources!”
