Wheelchair-Mounted Robotic Arm Could Change Lives
  • 7 years ago
by Jeff DonlanThis robotic arm could be a game changer for people with disabilities. German engineers developed the robot, known as EDAN. It is controlled by muscle signals measured on the surface of the skin. These EMG signals can be detected even in cases of severe muscular atrophy. The robot uses machine learning to autonomously perform the user’s desired task and can be mounted on a power wheelchair to give the user much more independence. EDAN is still in a research phase, but its creators hope to make the robot assistant widely available soon.
