The voter fraud investigation President Trump talked about launching appears to have lost its momentum.
An inside source reportedly indicated to CNN that “the voter fraud investigation is no longer a top priority for the President, insisting it's not off the table, but not expected anytime soon.”
The media outlet also notes that Trump’s executive order to launch the probe was never signed, adding, “The White House hasn't talked about it since. The President has moved on to other subjects.”
Trump has claimed in the past that as many as 5 million people voted illegally in the 2016 presidential election, causing Hillary Clinton to beat him in the popular vote count, notes PBS.
On January 25, Trump tweeted, “I will be asking for a major investigation into VOTER FRAUD, including those registered to vote in two states, those who are illegal and even, those registered to vote who are dead (and many for a long time). Depending on results, we will strengthen up voting procedures!”
Just two days later, he tweeted about one group’s claim that “at least 3,000,000 votes were illegal.”
However, such allegations of voter fraud have been disproven in several studies, and a poll conducted in late January found that only 25 percent of surveyed voters believe it occurred.
