Cancer Death Rate Plummeted 25% Since 1991

by Andrew CaringiThe cancer death rate in America continues to drop — down 25 percent since its peak in 1991. A new study by the American Cancer Society found 2.1 million fewer cancer deaths between 1991 and 2014. A drop in smoking rates and medical advances in early detection and treatment are credited to the steady decline. “The continuing drops in the cancer death rate are a powerful sign of the potential we have to reduce cancer’s deadly toll,”  said Dr. Otis Brawley, the chief medical officer of the American Cancer Society.
