This Robot Was Made For Kids With Developmental Disabilities
  • 7 years ago
by Anthony FalcoWith all kinds of helpful robots flooding the marketplace, this one hopes to set itself apart. Leka, made by a Kansas City-based company of the same name, uses games to aid children with developmental disabilities. The robot’s lights, expressions and sounds are designed to “increase motor, cognitive and emotional skills,” and can be customized to match the needs of the child who is using it. It teaches basic concepts like identifying colors and objects, and more complicated lessons on understanding social cues. The hope is to help the child overcome social hurdles and gain more independence. The developer hopes to eventually provide immediate data, allowing parents and therapist to chart the child’s progress.
