Psychological disorders such as Munchausen’s Syndrome, Factitious Disorder and Munchausen’s by Proxy can be debilitating and horrible diseases, but suffers can’t help it; it’s just how their brains work. They physically and emotionally need the attention of others and don’t care how they get it. Sometimes they lie and don’t realize it’s wrong or don’t even realize they are doing it. But for the people that knowingly and willingly lie for attention and financial gain are an entirely different story. These people thoroughly plot out their fibs and may even go as far as changing their appearance to keep up their ruse. They defraud the people closest to them and those just wanting to help a person in need. These fraudsters claim to have chronic illnesses, that they are on the brink of death, in order to obtain the things they want; be it money, freebies or sympathy. However, they rarely think of the consequences should they get caught. Fines, probation and even jail time are all possibilities when a person fakes a terrible illness for unlawful gain.
