President Donald Trump ordered a hiring freeze across the federal government on Monday, excluding positions related to security and the military. Trump said the initiative is only temporary until his budget director outlines a long-term plan to reduce the federal workforce through attrition. White House press secretary Sean Spicer said the decision intends to show greater care and appreciation for taxpayers’ money. The National Treasury Employees Union voiced concern that the decision would decrease service quality for those seeking Americans help from the government.
