Donald Trump protests held across Europe

Thousands of people across Europe have taken part in a global day of protests against new US president Donald Trump.
In London, around 5000 demonstrators gathered outside the American Embassy to promote women’s and human rights.
The rally was held ahead of the much larger ‘‘Women’s March on Washington’‘ in the US capital.
Sophie Walker, the leader of the Women’s Equality Party, said: “We are here to march to protest the hate and the division that Donald Trump puts forward as politics. We are here to march against the rising xenophobia in this country too. We are here to march against the normalisation of racism and misogyny and sexism.”
In Berlin, about a thousand demonstrators gathered outside the city’s iconic Brandenburg Gate.
Protesters say women’s rights are under threat from the new US administration.
US citizen Katie Berdett said: “Well I am fearful that many of our rights will be taken away, and I do fear for the democracy of our country, but at the same time I’m hopeful because there are so many people standing up and rising up and taking part in these demonstrations (against Trump).”
There was a similar scene in Paris, with organisers claiming some 10,000 protesters had hit the streets of the French capital.
In total, more than 600 rallies were expected to take place as part of a global day of action against President Trump, on his first full day in office.
