Alleged Orlando cop killer Markeith Loyd captured after police traced his cellphone

ORLANDO, FLORIDA — The suspect in the killing of his pregnant ex-girlfriend and an Orlando police officer was captured on Tuesday night in Orlando after a nine-day manhunt.

According to WTSP, police traced Markeith Loyd’s cellphone when he was using it to send text messages and found his hiding location. His phone had previously been turned off.

A SWAT team closed in on the house on 1157 Lescot Lane in the Carver Shores area on Tuesday night. Loyd initially tried to escape from the back of the house but then ran back inside. He was wearing body armor and had two handguns when he ran out from the front door. He then dropped the weapons on the ground.

Loyd is being treated for facial injuries at a local hospital. He previously told reporters that the police had beaten him.
