Your over-the-counter cough medicine may not work

Don't like cold medicine? Well good news, you can stop buying it because it probably doesn't work. A new report from the American Chemical Society says that your over-the-counter cough medicine doesn't actually suppress or stop your cough. In many cases, the results were similar to that of the placebo in that they didn't work, though they acknowledge that this is an area where they need more research. Cough syrup isn't totally useless though, as it usually makes you drowsy, letting you get much needed sleep.
