Volkswagen executive reportedly arrested in US

The FBI arrested Oliver Schmidt, the prime suspect in the Volkswagen emissions scandal, as he prepared to depart the U.S. for Germany, the New York Times wrote. Schmidt was charged with with defrauding the government and violating the Clean Air Act. He made his first appearance in federal court on Monday in Miami, but will be later moved to Detroit, where he was originally charged. The 48-year-old allegedly was key in covering up the automaker's diesel emissions cheating, according to an affidavit from the FBI.
