Woman’s SUV goes airborne, crashes into roof of North Carolina house

WINSTON-SALEM, NORTH CAROLINA — Residents of a group home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina got a shocking surprise when an SUV crash-landed in their living room on Friday.
The Winston-Salem Journal reports that 84-year-old Janice Harrison Clodfelter was driving when she suddenly passed out behind the wheel from a medical emergency.
Her vehicle continued down the road at 70 to 90 miles per hour. It sped past an intersection before hitting a curb and going up an embankment.
The white Buick SUV got launched into the air and crashed through the roof of a nearby house, right into the living room.
The house was a residential facility for autistic adults, six of whom were home during the crash. With the vehicle blocking the exit, two were trapped in the living room and had to be helped out by witnesses who broke through the house’s front window.
One of the witnesses also kept Clodfelter company until officers, firefighters and emergency medical personnel arrived to pull her out of the SUV. She was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries.
Firefighters later removed the car, pulling it back out through the hole in the roof.
