Gophers fire head coach Tracy Claeys in wake of scandal and near-bowl boycott

Minnesota fired coach Tracy Claeys on Tuesday, just over two weeks after the football program became embroiled in a standoff with the administration over the suspension of 10 players in connection with allegations of sexual assault. Claeys voiced support for his players publicly during the protest, much to the dismay of university officials. The Gophers are coming off a 2016 season where they won nine games for the first time since winning 10 in 2003. The season was capped by 17-12 win against Washington State in the Holiday Bowl.
