Amitabh Bachchan was presented with the Polio Eradication Champion award for his contribution to Polio Eradication Campaign. Amitabh Bachchan thanked the Rotary Organisation for the award. He says, when UNICEF asked him to lend his support for the fight against Polio in India, he readily agreed because he felt that as a fellow citizen he should do whatever he can for this noble cause and not because this would bring dignity and grace to his name. He also says that the journey was not very easy, it was stressful. They faced negativity from certain people who felt that this was an incorrect kind of medication but they fought that and came out victorious as India has been Polio free for an entire year.
