Only days after announcing he will shutter his charitable organization, Donald J. Trump Foundation, so he can focus on running the country, the president-elect took to Twitter to defend the foundation and shame the media for not making his good works public.
Donald Trump wrote on Monday night, “I gave millions of dollars to DJT Foundation, raised or recieved millions more, ALL of which is given to charity, and media won't report!”
Not long after, he tweeted, “The DJT Foundation, unlike most foundations, never paid fees, rent, salaries or any expenses. 100% of money goes to wonderful charities!”
Those statements come in the midst of controversy about the Donald J. Trump Foundation.
According to CNN, the organization is currently being investigated by the New York State Attorney General's office, which, incidentally, prevents the charity from being dissolved at this time.
Further, media outlets have already uncovered a variety of allegedly questionable activities involving the organization.
In November, the Washington Post reported that the foundation admitted to offenses of “self-dealing,” or somehow benefiting personally or professionally through a charity, to the IRS.
CNN revealed in September that, based on tax filings, it appears the bulk of the Donald J. Trump Foundation’s funding comes from outside donors.
