Ethiopia and Somaliland

Planned for a long time, we made a journey to Ethiopia and Somaliland in October 2016.
In Ethiopia we visited the hot desert & alien looking volcanic landscapes of the Danakil Depression. In contrast, spiritual Lalibela and the green & lush highlands in the area, and Aksum & some of the rock-hewn churches in Tigray. And ancient Harar in the east.
In Somaliland, we visited the capital Hargeisa, the terrific rock carvings of Laas Geel and the port town of Berbera. We did not meet any other foreign visitor in Somaliland, however we felt it was much safer than many western governments state in their formal travel advices. It could be useful to hire a private guide, like we did.
Both countries were highly fascinating.
