Supreme Court Dismisses Sanjay Dutt's Review Petition

The Supreme Court today dismissed the review petition filed by Sanjay Dutt after he was convicted by the Court under provisions of the Arms Act for possessing weapons illegally. The Supreme Court held that there were no grounds for the court to review its decision, that had been passed on March 21, when Dutt had been convicted for illegally possessing weapons, which was part of the consignment of weapons and explosives, which had been brought to India for co-ordinating the 1993 serial blasts, that killed 257 people and injured over 700.
At the same time, the court also dismissed the review petitions filed by the other six convicts Yusuf Mohsin Nulwalla, Khalil Ahmed Sayed Ali Nazir, Mohamed Dawood Yusuf Khan, Shaikh Asif Yusuf, Muzammil Umar Kadri and Mohammad Ahmed Shaikh.
Dutt has been told to surrender by May 15. The actor, who had been sentenced to five years in prison, will be serving three and a half years behind bars as he had already spent 18 months in jail.
